A holiday in Bibione is about much more than relaxing days on the beach. Just a short distance from the seaside resort, Eastern Veneto is home to historic towns, cultural landmarks and events that can add something truly special to your stay.
One of the most anticipated events of the season is the Portogruaro International Music Festival, taking place from August 26 to September 16 2026. Now in its 44th edition, the festival is organised by the Foundation (Fondazione Musicale Santa Cecilia) and directed by pianist Alessandro Taverna.
“Consonanze”: the theme of the 2026 edition
The 2026 Festival is entitled “Consonanze” – “Consonances”, a word that evokes harmony, resonance and the connections that can emerge when different musical worlds come together.
The theme reflects the dialogue between different periods, generations and musical languages that runs throughout the Festival programme.
The programme moves from the great operatic and symphonic tradition to chamber music, jazz, contemporary sounds and electronic music. Most performances will take place in Portogruaro, including at the Teatro Comunale Luigi Russolo and at some of the most evocative venues in the town and surrounding area.
Highlights not to miss
The Festival opens on August 16 with the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI (RAI National Symphony Orchestra owned by the public radio and television), together with Giovanni Sollima, appearing as cellist, conductor and composer.
On August 31, Teatro Russolo will host Gaetano Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore (The Elixir of Love), performed by the Orchestra of Teatro Goldoni Livorno and the Umbrian Opera Choir (Coro Lirico dell’Umbria).
Among the most distinctive events is Echi della Terra (Echoes of the Earth), featuring the Ruda Polyphonic Choir (Coro Polifonico di Ruda) and Remo Anzovino on September 3, followed on September 8 by Il Suono dei Pianeti (The Sound of the Planets), an encounter between music and astronomy.
On September 10, Dardust will present Urban Impressionism, a performance blending piano, strings and electronic sounds.
On September 13, Emmanuel Pahud, principal flute of the Berliner Philharmoniker, will take centre stage with the concert Bach in Berlin.
The Festival will come to a close on September 16 with a concert dedicated to Chopin, performed by the Youth Filarmonici Friulani Orchestra together with Alessandro Taverna.
The Festival comes to Bibione too
Before the official programme begins, “Aspettando il Festival” – “Waiting for the Festival” brings live music to several destinations across Eastern Veneto.
Bibione is also included in the programme: on Friday August 21 at 9.15 pm, the Filarmonici Friulani Quintet (Quintetto dei Filarmonici Friulani) will perform works by Brahms and Mozart at the Church of Santa Maria Assunta. Admission is free.
